Glass and Clay Sculpture Class

Service Description

In this dynamic small group class we will be creating both clay and fused glass sculptural forms that will ultimately comprise one finished art work with multiple pieces. We will create hand built forms in clay, emphasizing both texture and form. Frit and powdered glass can then be fused into the clay’s texture. Secondly we will design a fused glass piece or pieces inspired by and in conversation with the clay forms. The glass sculpture will be fused flat and then slumped over a mold in a 2nd firing. During the final class we will playfully assemble our finished pieces into different compositions to create small experimental environments, and share and discuss these possibilities with the group. This class is unique, in that it will be co-taught by two teaching glass and ceramic artists who have sometimes worked side by side, and been connected through art and friendship for 35 years, Aura Shahaf Woelfle, owner of Aura Art Studio, and visiting artist Tomoko Amaki Abe.
